Mark Prior Signs a Minor League Deal with the Boston Red Sox
The best years of pitcher Mark Prior’s career in the MLB are over. Not since his days with the Chicago Cubs was Prior a real force to be reckoned in baseball as he has had to deal with multiple injury problems that have had him become nothing more than a mediocre reliever.
Despite that being the case, Prior hasn’t given up on his career in baseball as he strives to be the next feel-good story in the MLB after recently signing a minor league deal with the struggling Boston Red Sox. Unlike years past, the Red Sox have really started to decline both in the bullpen and at the plate. The consensus over the past two years has been that the ball club just hasn’t been run right, but they continue to try and get an edge via free agency.
Obviously, over the past few seasons most of the free agents deals have failed miserably in Boston with players like Carl Crawford. This minor deal may very well turn out to be a disappointment with Prior failing to move up the ranks and get back on the mound in the big leagues.
Fortunately, the Red Sox are at the point now where they will try anything to get back on track as one of the best teams in baseball. Prior may turn out to be a drastic step in the right direction, but that remains to be seen.
Infamous Red Sox’s Bill Buckner Ball to be Auctioned in Dallas
Infamous Red Sox’s Bill Buckner Ball to be Auctioned in Dallas
The memory of the baseball going through Bill Buckner’s legs back in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series is still very fresh in the minds of many dedicated Boston Red Sox’s fans. That play broke the hearts of many in Beantown as it cost the Red Sox the series and potentially breaking the curse. Even though the Boston was able to bounce back in recent times with two World Series championships under skipper Terry Francona, Buckner’s botched play is still very painful for Red Sox nation to watch as it just reminds people of what could’ve been.
Now arguably the most infamous baseball in history will be auctioned off in Dallas and might get a price tag of as much as $100,000. This auction will take place on Friday, May 4 in Texas and this Buckner ball as it has been dubbed will be the biggest attraction or centerpiece of the auction.
The items of that will be auctioned will be from the private baseball memorabilia collection of Seth Swirsky who is a songwriter from Los Angeles.
In 22 years in Major League Baseball, Buckner hit an average of .289 and racked up an impressive 2,715 hits during that time. Despite playing just three seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Bill Buckner will forever be remembered for this play and apparently this baseball that will be auctioned off will also be forever linked to the former first baseman. We have excellent Boston Red Sox Tickets for all home and road dates this season.
